Standard float glass

Our basic glass used for works of low value of when keeping costs down is a standard float glass. This glass has a slight green cast to it because of its iron content. This is a standard picture framers glass. We stock 2mm and 3mm float glass.

Anti-reflective – Artglass AR70

The main anti-reflective glass product that we use is Artless AR70. This glass crystal clear, it comes in 2mmmm 3mm and laminated 4.4mm thickness and gives less than 1% reflection. It has a basic 70% UV filter. There are a range of other anti-reflective glass products that we can get hold of so please ask if you have something in mind.

Anti-reflective and UV control – Artglass AR92 or Artglass99

The main anti-reflective and UV control glass product that we use is TruVue UltraVue UV92. This glass has a UV coating that filters 92% of UV light at 90 degrees.  They give less than 1% reflection and come in 2mm or 3mm thicknesses. There are a range of anti-reflective and UV filtering glass available including a new product called Artglass 99 that offers a 99% UV filter.

Clear cast acrylic

Acrylic is a good quality, lightweight and shatter-resistant glazing material. Ideal for the larger frame or where safety is a consideration. Excellent colour accuracy. Available in 2mm and 3mm.

Lightweight and shatter-resistant glazing material. Ideal for the larger frame or where safety is a consideration. Excellent colour accuracy with UV control. Available in 2mm and 3mm.

UV control and abrasion resistant

It is very difficult to scratch while much better able to withstand impacts than glass. Its other benefits include it being light weight, free from splinters and a much reduced level of static compared to other types of plastic glazing. It has UV filters and is available in 3mm. For conservation and museum framing we use a range of specialist glass.

We offer different glass depending on the requirements of the client. These include: maximum UV protection, maximum clarity, maximum clarity and UV protection, maximum clarity and physical and UV protection.

For larger frames (generally frames over 100mm x 100mm) we recommend the use of 3mm glass, laminated glass or acrylic that is lighter than glass and safer.

If you are worried about the fading or discolouration of an image then we would always suggest using a glass or acrylic with a UV coating.
